Manual Therapy in Kimball, TN

At your first appointment, your Physical Therapist will perform a thorough evaluation and develop a personalized rehabilitation treatment program with you that may include Manual Therapy.

What Is Manual Therapy?

Manual therapy refers to the “hands-on” treatment of under performing muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. Encompassing a broad group of techniques performed by trained physical therapists, manual therapy treatments may include moving the joints in specific directions to regain movement (joint mobilizations), muscle stretching, passive movements and movements designed to improve muscle activation. Specific soft tissue techniques are also used to improve the mobility and functioning of tissues, nerves, and muscles.

Benefits of Joint Mobilization

Orthopedic manual physical therapists treat acute and chronic pain conditions affecting all areas of the body. • Neck pain (muscle spasm, disc problems, etc.)
  • Lower back pain (disc problems, facet joint restriction, spinal stenosis, etc.)

  • Hip pain (hip bursitis, total hip replacement, myofascial hip pain, hip impingement, etc.)
  • Knee pain (iliotibial band syndrome, patellofemoral dysfunction, total knee replacement, etc.)

After being diagnosed at the Center for Sports Medicine with degeneration of intervertebral disc (L3,L4,L5,S1), I began my therapy at Southern Rehab with Raquel Koch. She began by explaining my problem and how we were going to target certain muscles. I thought it would take a long time to correct my problem. However, I was wrong. Raquel explained thoroughly the importance of each exercise for a certain muscle. After 4 visits and doing my homework exercises, I could feel the difference in my lower back. Raquel asked me after each exercise how the muscle or back felt, not wanting me to overdo, but wanting me feel the muscle working/strengthening. Raquel is a kind, soft-spoken, knowledgeable encourager. I can’t think of enough positive words to describe her. Southern Rehab is THE PLACE to go when you hurt!

Southern Rehab is THE place to go for PT. I have gone there for years after every injury or operation requiring PT and will not go anywhere else. They are very professional and knowledgeable but caring. Over the years they have also become friends, they care about you as a person. My latest therapist Raquel has been awesome. She has knowledge and experience in nerve damage related issues and has brought on improvements in my balance and strength. She is insightful to how my body is reacting to treatments and to how much work I need in certain areas. The entire crew at southern is great, I would not go anywhere else. Hopefully you won't have to go as much as I have but they are the place to go.
